The 198th Infantry Brigade was a combat brigade of the United States Army, originally formed in 1966 to serve in the Vietnam War. It was part of the Americal Division, and its primary mission was to conduct search-and-destroy operations in the rural areas of Quang Ngai Province and surrounding regions. The brigade saw significant combat action during the war and suffered heavy casualties. It was involved in infamous incidents such as the My Lai massacre and the Song My operation. After the war, the 198th Infantry Brigade was deactivated in 1972, and most of its soldiers returned home. Today, the brigade's legacy lives on through the many veterans who served in it, and through its place in the history of the Vietnam War.
